Persuasive text

This term we are looking at persuasive texts, persuasive writing and persuasive speeches.  For reading we looked at persuasive texts.

JOY COWLEY (reading gp)

I think the author is telling us ............

• That we need to tell the truth, because in the book Mel told her mum the truth about the wallet and mum knew it was Mrs Maka's wallet.
• To always tell the truth because you never know who it might belong to, and they might need help like Mrs Maka.  She would have been blind if Mel didn't tell her mother.
• To do the right thing, even though you want to do something else with what you find because that is what Mel did in the book.
• To tell someone you trust if you find something important, they will know what to do with it.  Mel told her mum.
• Be brave and do the right thing, don't be scared.  Mel was scared at first but then knew it was the right thing to do.

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK

• Jack the beanstalk should never have climbed up the beanstalk because he is trespassing which is against the law, also stealing from the Giant.
• Jack should not have climbed the beanstalk.  Yes he was poor but he should have got a job and work for his money not selling other people's stuff.
• Jack should have stolen the giant's stuff to surprise his lovely mother.

THE THREE BILLY GOATS 

• The bridge doesn't belong to the troll so they should be allowed on the bridge.
• The billy goats should cross the bridge if they didn't cross they would die.
• The three Billy goats should have crossed the bridge because they could starve to death and will feel sorry for themselves.

THE THREE LITTLE PIGS

• Mum should not have sent the pigs out on their own, to build their own houses, they might be kidnapped.
• The Mother pig shouldn't send the pigs out because they might get eaten by that stupid ugly wolf.

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD

• Mum should not have sent Little Red Riding Hood out on her own, she is too young to go in the woods alone.  Mum is very stupid she should have gone with LRRH when she is free.
• Mum should have gone with LRRH because she might be captured by someone and they will scare her and take her goodies.

CINDERELLA

• The fairy godmother should not change Cinderella because she was fine the way she was.
• The fairy godmother should have changed Cinderella because people will think that she looks terrible
